IN CHARACTER
Name: Harry Flynn
Canon: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Canon Point: After dropping the grenade at the end of Chapter 25
Age: This is never specified but it's safe to say he's somewhere in this early to mid thirties.
History: Here.
Personality: In a word, Harry Flynn is affable. He's charming, funny, sociable, flirty, and friendly. He's the sort of person who will crack jokes and reminisce about fun old times even when he has a gun to your back. And that's because when it all comes down to it, Flynn can only really rely on his charm to get by. He's cunning, yes, but doesn't have a mind for puzzles, nor is he all that historically literate (which is a problem when you're trying to steal historical artifacts). And that is precisely what fuels the deep seated inferiority complex that festers below his crooked smile and devil-may-care attitude.
When not fueled by spite, he is easily bored and somewhat lazy, as evidenced by the way he insists that Drake do all the work during the two segments in Uncharted 2 where he and Drake work together. He is, however, intensely practical and has a fair bit of common sense when it comes to getting a job done—you can count on Flynn to be well-prepared for the task at hand, even if he doesn't feel like doing all of it (after all, that's what you're here for). Flynn always has something to say and is prone to making idle or inane observations to fill up dead air, usually in the form of dumb questions.
Despite the fact that he turned on Drake, his loyalties are not necessarily fickle—he sided with the person whom he thought would benefit him the most and rode it out to the horrible, violent conclusion. When Harry Flynn turns on you, it's because it's part of his game plan, and his game plan is always looking out for himself.
Flynn's proclivity for violence is something that escalated over the course of his canon; he started out not overtly trying to kill his former friend and partner, choosing to merely serve him up as a fall guy for the museum guards and later opting to arrange to have him taken to his boss instead of taking care of Drake himself. All this changes in Nepal, when Flynn becomes willing and even eager to put a bullet in Drake. Lazarevic's particularly violent philosophy certainly had a terrible influence on Flynn, but he was never a good man. Between that and his desire to outdo Drake and prove himself the superior thief, Flynn played the role he believed he needed to in order to get things done, and at the end of the day he is not sorry for anything he's done.
Contracts: To be quite honest, Flynn would not wholly understand what was explained to him and would agree to their terms sheerly because he figures it's what they want to hear. A little thing like a contract has never stopped him from reneging on terms before, and it's not going to stop him now, if it comes to it. But the most important thing is to appear willing and agreeable to the people who appear to have the most clout.
Abilities/Skills:
- Freeclimbing: Flynn is able to scale walls without the use of a harness or ropes if it comes to it.
- Lockpicking
- firearms: while not a crack shot, he knows his way around guns.
- hand-to-hand combat: he's not incredible at it, but he can throw a knock-out punch if it comes to it.
- reconnaissance: as part of a thief's repertoire, he's capable of staking out a location and taking note of guard patrols and other security measures.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths:
- Charm: This is Flynn's most valuable asset. He bets nearly everything on his ability to talk himself in or out of a situation. He puts you at ease with jokes and a few beers while steals your wallet.
- Not much of a conscience: Succeeding in the competitive, high-stakes world of art theft means being willing to break a few eggs. Or skulls, rather. He doesn't much care whose it is.
- Preparation: Unlike SOME people in his line of work, Flynn actually shows up to a heist with a lockpick, tranq guns, a grappling hook, and a lighter.
Weaknesses:
- Overestimating his own intelligence: Flynn isn't as bright as he thinks he is and falls short of being the expert he thinks of himself as. This lands in him trouble when he cannot deliver on his promises, and fuels his inferiority complex when he compares himself to Drake and finds himself wanting.
- Underestimating women: he got his nose broken not once but twice by assuming that because he had a height advantage and a big gun he could keep a captive woman under control.
- Chloe Frazer: Chloe is Nathan Drake's ex and had some sort of sexual relationship with Flynn ("mostly professional", as Chloe would describe it). Despite the fact that she was working against him the whole time, he still went out of his way to cover for Chloe and barter for her life with Lazarevic. He was perfectly willing to let people die to make that happen, and Flynn seems to see her as more of an object than a person, but Chloe seems to be the only person that Flynn would stick his neck out for.
- Poor Judge of Character: for some reason, this man who plans ahead for everything didn't see betrayal by murder coming from a psychopathic war criminal who routinely stabs his underlings for minor infractions.
Items:
Flynn doesn't have much on him except the clothes on his back (a leather moto jacket, v-neck tee shirt, jeans, socks, steel toe boots, a belt, and a gun holster), a zippo lighter, wallet, and passport.

Oi, is this thing on?
[Flynn taps the screen of the device and peers into the camera, one eyebrow cocked up. He frowns until he's reasonably sure that the gadget is working.]
I'm something of a newbie and already feeling a bit bored, here. What do you say you meet with your new friend Flynn at the closest space pub or space pub equivalent for a few drinks and a few laughs? By the way I figure it, you can't beat breaking the ice over a pint and a round of darts. Might even spice it up with a wager or two for funsies. What do you say?
